What is Consultants Insurance?

When you work closely with your clients and meet up with them on a regular basis, it’s important to make sure you’re covered against accidents.

For example, spilling coffee on an expensive piece of hardware in a customer’s office while you're out and about on business could lead to a claim for compensation.

If you’re found legally liable for injury or property damage following an accident, Public Liability Insurance for consultants can cover the cost of the claim (subject to the policy limit you choose).

A standard Consultants Insurance policy comes with £1 million public liability cover included.

You can tailor your insurance to suit the unique needs of your business and only pay for the cover you need.

What does Consultants Insurance cover?

Business Insurance for consultants starts with standard Public Liability cover, and you can add a range of optional extras to tailor your policy to exactly what you need.

Public Liability Insurance

Public Liability Insurance isn’t legally required, but it gives you peace of mind when you’re working with clients at their homes or in your office.

Having Public Liability Insurance means you’re covered if you or a client injures themselves while visiting your home or office. It also gives you cover if you accidentally damage a client’s property while you’re visiting them for business purposes.

Public Liability Insurance offers you up to £1 million of cover as standard, with the option of increasing it to up to £10 million.

Employers’ Liability Insurance

Employers' Liability Insurance is a legal requirement under the Employers’ Liability Act 1969 if you employ staff or apprentices.

It covers you if one of your employees is injured or becomes ill while they’re working for your business.

Employers' Liability Insurance is provided as standard if you have employees.

Professional Indemnity Insurance

Professional Indemnity Insurance covers your compensation and legal fees if a client accuses you of providing inadequate advice or services and makes a claim against you or your business.

For example, emailing sensitive information to the wrong contact isn’t a mistake you’ll make very often, but it could result in legal action against you.

Professional indemnity insurance is important if you offer professional services to a client and they believe your advice caused them to lose money or suffer reputational damage.

You can add up to £5 million Professional Indemnity Insurance to your Consultants Insurance policy as an optional extra.

Frequently asked questions

A

Although Business Insurance isn’t a legal requirement, it covers you against a range of risks you may have to deal with yourself if you’re not insured.

For example, compensation claims for injuries or property damage. It also shows potential clients that you’re a reliable, professional tradesman and some larger companies won’t hire you if you’re not covered.

A

You do if you employ anyone to work for you, including apprentices, because it’s a legal requirement. If you’re a sole trader and you don’t have anyone working for you, there’s no need to have Employers’ Liability cover.

You can add Employer’s Liability cover to your policy at any time if you do take someone on. Just give us a call, and we’ll get it sorted.
