What is Gardeners Insurance?
While you’re hard at work growing your business, getting insurance is easy to forget.
Accidents can happen when you’re working on uneven ground or in difficult conditions.
If you or one of your employees cause property damage or injury to a member of the public and are found responsible, gardeners insurance will cover you against claims for compensation.
You can tailor your cover to suit your business, so you’ve got insurance that’s there whenever you need it.
What does Gardeners Insurance cover?
Business Insurance for gardeners starts with standard Public Liability cover, and you can add a range of optional extras to tailor your policy to exactly what you need.
Public Liability Insurance
Public Liability Insurance isn’t legally compulsory for gardeners, but most people in the industry think it’s essential.
Public sector organisations and large companies are unlikely to work with an uninsured gardener, so you could miss out on valuable work if you’re not covered.
Having Public Liability Insurance means you’re covered if you or an employee accidentally injures a member of the public or damages their property.
Public Liability Insurance offers you up to £1 million of cover as standard, with the option of increasing it to up to £10 million.

Employers’ Liability Insurance
Employers' Liability Insurance is a legal requirement under the Employers’ Liability Act 1969 if you employ staff or apprentices.
It covers you if one of your employees is injured or becomes ill while they’re working for your business.
Employers' Liability Insurance is provided as standard if you have employees.

Frequently asked questions
Although Business Insurance isn’t a legal requirement, it covers you against a range of risks you may have to deal with yourself if you’re not insured.
For example, compensation claims for injuries or property damage. It also shows potential clients that you’re a reliable, professional tradesman and some larger companies won’t hire you if you’re not covered.
You do if you employ anyone to work for you, including apprentices, because it’s a legal requirement. If you’re a sole trader and you don’t have anyone working for you, there’s no need to have Employers’ Liability cover.
You can add Employer’s Liability cover to your policy at any time if you do take someone on. Just give us a call, and we’ll get it sorted.
