What is Van Insurance?

Churchill’s Van Insurance covers you for business or leisure.

You’re covered if you use your van for work. For example, to carry your goods, tools, or equipment to different locations during your working day.

Keeping your van on the road means you can be there for your customers when they need you.

If you use your van to get out into the great outdoors for camping or other activities like fishing or cycling trips, we’ve got you covered for that too.

We can also cover you if you use your van for commuting.

What does Van Insurance cover?

Churchill offers you two different types of cover for Van Insurance.

Comprehensive

Our Comprehensive Van Insurance gives you wide-ranging cover for your van, including:

  • Loss or damage to your van (including windscreen cover)
  • New vehicle replacement cover if yours is less than one year old and you’re the first and only registered owner.
  • Third-party liability cover
  • Personal belongings cover (up to £150)
  • Personal accident cover (up to £5,000)
  • Medical expenses (up to £100 per person)

Third-Party Fire and Theft

Third-Party Fire and Theft covers you if someone makes a claim against you or your van is stolen or fire-damaged.

How can I reduce the cost of my Van Insurance?

There are a number of things you can do to help keep the price of your Van Insurance down.

These are our three top tips:

Review your van's security

Vans can be a target for thieves looking to steal tools, parts or the vehicle itself. Making sure you take the right security measures means you can keep your van safe, your business moving, and could help keep your premiums down.

It's a good idea to remove tools from your van overnight and to make it harder for criminals, ensure it's safely secured in a garage or off the road.

If you do have to make a theft claim, your insurance price could go up when you renew your policy.

Keep your miles down

The more you drive your van, the more likely it is that you’ll have an accident. The price of your insurance can go up when you drive more miles, so keep an eye on how much you use your van.

Think about whether your journey is really necessary and keep tabs on your mileage. Giving an accurate figure when you renew your policy can help to keep your premium down.

Avoid modifications

Modified vans are usually more expensive to insure because the parts are costly to replace if they're damaged.

If you own a modified van, it's more likely to be a target for thieves which can also mean paying a higher price to insure it.

Make your policy work for you

Optional extras are arranged by Brightside Insurance Services Ltd and are offered by a range of insurers. They are only available if you buy a Van Insurance product.

No Claim Discount Protection

Your No Claim Discount won't be affected by one claim made during the current policy period, or by two claims arising in the three preceding years of insurance. To be eligible, you must have at least 4 years' No Claim Discount, you and all named drivers must be at least 25, and all have no fault claims within the past three years. You'll no longer be eligible if claims exceed the above numbers. Your premium may still increase following a claim.

Get into the detail

To complete a quote, you need to know:

  • The van registration number.
  • If it’s for business use, the year the business that uses the van was set up.
  • The month and year you got your driving licence for the type of vehicle you're insuring – you can find this in section 10 on the back of your photocard licence.
  • The current market value of the van, including any racking, signage, or modifications - where possible, we use an industry valuation service to show you how much we think the van is worth.
